I heard about a KFC ex-employee who let the cat out of the bag regarding KFC's "secret recipe" for their chicken coating. You'd be right to think that couscous did not make the cut. • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 chicken stock cube
  • 1 medium egg
  • Fry light

METHOD:

Preheat oven to 200 Degrees | Add the mustard powder, cumin, cayenne pepper and chicken stock cube to the couscous and add enough boiling water to cover | cover with a plate | allow couscous to absorb the water | mix egg into the couscous mixture | Dip chicken pieces into the mixture | Spray a baking tray with frylight | place chicken pieces on tray | Pop into the oven and cook for 25-30 mins

Sweet Freedom Fruit Syrup / Choc Shot Review: Half a syn of heaven

Sweet Freedom Products

Sweet Freedom Products

I posted on Instagram a while back about some of the Sweet Freedom products I got my hands on, including: Sweet Freedom Syrup  ‘fruit syrup for natural sweetness’ and Choc Shot - ‘all-natural liquid chocolate’.  These products are all natural, Gluten Free, Vegan Society Approved, and only 14 calories per teaspoon (This makes them a half a syn per teaspoon people). They also are totally free from chemical processing of any type.

I have to say that this range have since opened the doors to so many delicious recipes, and curbed many a craving of mine! While I've tried all of the flavours, I'll just review their top two products here to give you the best sense of what they are about.

Sweet Freedom Fruit Syrup

When I first saw this I was thinking - this looks great - not watery at all, rather its golden and luxurious in texture. But how would I use this now? I tried it on top of my porridge with some blueberries and it was gorgeous. Also, a little goes a very long way - one teaspoon was plenty. I've since used it in my coffee (I now prefer it to sugar and save 1.5 syns in the process) This was truly delicious and a perfect alternative to sugar / honey / maple syrup / water (well, I'd drink it!) It's also nice for baking. You can see a recipe for oat cookies here where I used this syrup in place of sugar, it gave a lovely golden colour.

Sweet Freedom Choc Shot Liquid Chocolate

One for the chocoholics! The bottle brands this as a hot chocolate (and it makes a gorgeous, lump free hot choc), however it's a lot more versatile than that. You can use this for a burst of authentic, chocolatey heaven with anything you fancy. I did loads of recipes with this below are just the ones I got on camera!

If you are interesting in trying these out, find a list of their stockists here

Oh and if you haven't already, head over to the Slimming World Survival Facebook Page for a chance to win one of 10 bottles of choc shot!*
